Selamat Ari Gawai

Today is Gawai Day
which is celebrated by the Dayak, native ethnic groups of Sarawak on the 1st of July every year
Same as any new year celebrated in Malaysia,
Dayak would also visit their friends and relatives
and most Dayak returns to their kampong before Hari Gawai to celebrate the thanksgiving day
.
We planned to visit my mom friend's kampong but the distance is too far so no kampong pics! :(
but guess what!!
we visited our Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu's house :)
this was our first time here
and the weather is so hot! :S

with many Malay visitors dressed up in pretty clothes

Sarawak kek lapis/layer cake

looks like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavor icecream

this is called 'Piyek'
a local delicacy and are only available in Kuching i think :P
it is a cracker with some spices, roasted peanuts and anchovies
and are available in different sizes, picture above is the tiny ones
and is a great snack to nom on :D

ahh.. my mom loves this.
i had no idea what is this as i never taste this
i think this is like some kind of short bread with colourful garnishing

from left to right, mihun goreng(fried rice vermicelli), ayam masak merah(red cooked chicken), daging masak kicap if not mistaken (beef in soysauce), white rice (not in picture) and lemang(glutinous rice steamed in bamboo, not in pic too)
