Canine's skin is loaded with oil-producing gland that keep the skin supple and healthy.
Every dog is different and requires different attentions.
Short-coated breeds usually do not need a lot of attention while the long-coats needs regular bathing and brushing to help them look good and smells good and also to reduce the risk of skin infections.

If your lazy to maintain your dog hygiene, you can always bring them for regular grooming. Grooming is a great way to find problems you might otherwise miss, such as fleas or small bumps on skin.
But grooming is costly too, so the best way is to take care of your dog hygiene yourself.
Just follow these few steps is enough to keep your dog healthy and clean :)

1. Brush them often
Regular brushing distributes natural oils over the skin and also helps to prevent rashes and infections.A short-hair breed can be brush or rubbed with chamois or soft cloth once a week meanwhile the long fur needs daily brushing to prevent tangle and hair mats

2. Get rid of hair mats
For pets with long fur, mats are never ending problems!They not only look scruffy but also traps moisture next to the skin, making it easier for bacteria or parasites to thrive
Hair mats are hard and tricky to remove as the skin underneath is often tender
you can either work out mats regularly with comb or a brush if you can convience your dog to stay still,
or spray the mat with a detangler spray(available in pet supply store),
or just clip it off with a pair of blunt scissors if the mat is too tight to remove or if it is against the skin

3.Trim nails
Dogs nails grow surprisingly fast!!Trim them regularly if not they are more likely to crack or tear

4.Keep the teeth clean
by brushing them several times a week or better yet, everyday!!
it will keep them clean and bacteria free
Vets have found that the same bacteria in mouth that causes gun disease can get into the bloodstream, possibly damaging the heart or other organs. :(
Dental care can be as intricate as using a toothbrush and paste made for dogs or
as simple as wiping the outer surfaces of teeth with a piece of gauze.
Giving dogs rawhide or rubber chews and hard biscuits to crunch will also help keep the teeth clean too.

5.Take care of the Ears
The ears are naturally self-cleaning and don't require a lot of care.
but you can periodically swab out the outer potions of the ears with a dry cotton ball
Vet may recommend using a combination of ear cleaner and disinfectant.
Do not use cotton swabs to clean out the ear canal as this can push wax and debris in instead of getting it out.
