The Basset Hound

a.k.a
The Hush Puppies
visited my grandma on Sunday morning
and 'they' attracted us(my siblings and i) to visit them

These are my cousin's pet
Bobo (female,4months old) on the left and Happy(male.almost 3 years) on the right

Bobo is very active, loud and aggressive while Happy is much obedient
I personally adores Happy :D
Bobo always growl at us but actually she is very afraid of us
she even hides away from me when i flashes the camera at her

the Basset Hound are known as the world longest dog
they are born to hunt and for tracking rabbits
notice the tail with white end??
it is like a flag to let the hunters track them while they track the rabbits
they are a scent hound and hunt by scent
their droopy ears helps to trap scent and short legs bring their nose closer to the ground
their legs are heavy and powerful as well

Basset Hound had a few health issues
including bloating and spinal problem
their droopy eyes may be an issue
the area under the eyeball will collect dust and dirt and build up with mucus,
it is best to wipe the eyes area with a damp cloth on a daily basis to prevent eye irritation
they hardy breed too

besides that, they need weekly ear cleaning due to their extremely long ears which dangles around wiping almost everything from dirt to food
and i wanted to say that Bobo's ears are very very dirty!!
Basset are prone to ear disease and because of dirty unclean ears, they are capable of developing chronic and potentially fatal ear diseases

the best environment for a basset is a large space
they needs plenty of space to roam around
and i don't think they make a good apartment dog
they are known as the world's longest dog and will grow longer every year
Bobo is only 4 months old and compare to her 3 months she grew so fast which shocks me!!!
can't believe she is 4 months old

while for training
Basset are hard to train!
they are very stubborn
because they uses their nose not ear most of the time
and are motivated by food which means tamjiak* :p
so trainings based on treats reward, positive reinforcement is the best method

notty Bobo playing with Happy

Basset are a wonderful family dog
they are great with kids
